PICTORIAL coffee-table books, or xie zhen ji, are common publications in the Asian entertainment scene, particularly in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

However, while pictorial books amongst female artistes are common, those by male artistes are considerably fewer. After all, it takes a pretty confident, or vain, guy to publish a book with fancy pictures of oneself.
Nevertheless, over the years, the trend has changed and there are numerous such books by male artistes in the market.
One of the most notable was Leslie Cheung, who won design awards for his Passion of China photo-book released in 2001.
The book, which was released in Japan, featured photos of Cheung taken at various stops during his mainland China concert tour in 2000. Then there is Taiwanese boyband F4, who sold millions of copies of their various pictorial books during the height of the F4 fever in 2001 and 2002.
